Well, officially yes. In reality…you know, such things do persist long and painfully. It is rather sad: now I am reading quite a lot of USA press (they can do quality journalism and visualisation, thats for sure), and in that discourse slavery and its lasting effects have a huge presence, it is something that still needs to be sorted out - there are even talks of retributions. In Russia, the lasting effects of a really traumatic history get swept under the carpet; how bad is that that even the events of 200 years ago are still left unsolved and un-answered in the collective memory?
