Not really. More like: in the formation of the post-war European social order (more or less soziale Marktwirtschaft + freedom of expression) fascism was stamped on hard, too hard. This left part of the ‘group subconscious’, in particular the sort of ‘togetherness’ that traditionally expresses itself in military marches and/or quasi religious ceremony, untended and outlawed, and this is now coming back with a vengeance. The growing isolation of individuality reinforces this movement. The rather insipid, polite Christianity we have had since the war is no match spiritually for the deep subconscious when it starts to rampage. Another side of this is that the European social order is curiously myth-less (myth plays still a strong role in both the USA and Russia) and I am not sure human community can survive without myth.
