Thanks for this reply. I have tried to flesh it out a bit in a posting today. Yes, I know I am treading a very fine line. What marked me here was realizing, about 10 years ago, when I actually got to read and watch newsreels of Hitler’s and Goebbels’ sppeches, how much Nazism was a quasi-religious phenomenon, giving meaning and purpose to a German psyche left emptied by defeat and the collapse of the Wilhelminian Empire.
Your comment on myth is well-taken. The Russian and US lower classes have myth fed to them and they believe it. We have no myth to serve.
